May be assigned to cataloging services, reference services, and/or library programs for specific age groups.
Essential Functions 1.
Provides reference/reader's advisory services and suggests relevant materials and search procedures to meet information needs with high quality customer service.
2.
Explains, demonstrates, and assists patrons in the use of reference sources including online catalogs, databases, indexes, and other specialized library resources.
3.
Ensures knowledge of reference techniques, procedures, and materials available through review, research, and awareness of changes within the profession.
4.
Reviews and evaluates publisher announcements, catalogs, and journals; selects and orders books and non-print materials based on reviews and collection needs; reviews current collection materials while considering date of technical information, aesthetic qualities, etc.
; ensures development and constant review of library collection to meet community educational, informational, and recreational needs.
5.
Plans, promotes, and presents library programs that meet the educational, informational, and recreational needs of the community and that help acquaint citizens with library services and materials.
6.
Creates updated reading lists, reader's guides, and other reader's advisory tools to be shared on the library web site, printed lists, email blasts, and through social media.
7.
Plans and implements Summer Reading Programs.
8.
Updates library webpage regularly, adds upcoming programs to the calendar, and creates graphics and flyers to promote programs and services on the website, on social media, and in email newsletters.
9.
Assists with processing of interlibrary loans.
10.
Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
11.
Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
12.
Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.
When assigned to Reference Services:
1.
Provides customer service assistance at the reference desk by answering questions, locating materials, and assisting patrons with library resources.
2.
Assists patrons with computer programs, online resources, downloadable media, public internet access, printing, scanning, copying, and basic troubleshooting of computer problems.
3.
Assists with processing of interlibrary loans.
When assigned to Library Programs:
1.
Presents value-added events to library patrons.
2.
Plans, prepares, and presents library programs of an educational or recreational nature that help build library connections to customers' lives.
3.
Works collaboratively with other librarians to meet program goals.
When assigned to Cataloging Services:
1.
Oversees cataloging of library material records and performs data management tasks through the library's integrated library system.
2.
Performs both copy cataloging and original cataloging tasks; this includes genealogy and local history materials (books, maps, records, and other ephemera).
3.
May perform functional supervision of any staff or volunteers assigned to area of work, including specific collection projects.
4.
Provides occasional coverage at service desks.
When assigned to Youth and Outreach Services 1.
Provides customer service assistance at the children's or teen services desks by answering questions, locating materials, and assisting patrons with library resources.
2.
Plans, promotes, and presents storytimes and other programs for children and teens.
3.
Maintains current knowledge of children's and young adult literature.
Required Skills SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills Excellent verbal and written communication.
Organized and detail oriented.
Willing to learn and work outside comfort zone.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Team player who maintains cooperative working relationships Proficient with computer applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and willing to learn new applications.
Physical ability to perform job functions such as lifting materials/equipment and pushing/pulling book carts.
Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Master's Degree in Library Science and/or Information Science is required.
Must have previous customer service experience in a library setting.
Bilingual highly desired.
Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check and credit check.
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.
